An Indian-origin man, Bobby Singh Shah, 51, has been arrested and charged with capital murder in connection with the death of 21-year-old Nepalese college student Muna Pandey in Houston, Texas, according to the New York Post.
Shah was taken into custody on Wednesday night and is accused of fatally shooting Pandey, a nursing student at Houston Community College, during an attempted robbery on August 24. Pandey’s body was found in her apartment on Monday, with multiple gunshot wounds.
Shah is alleged to have committed an “execution-style” killing, but it remains unclear whether he and Pandey were previously acquainted.
Attack Captured on CCTV
Court records indicate that Shah forced his way into Pandey’s apartment at gunpoint. Pandey had a security camera outside her door due to previous harassment, which captured the incident. The footage shows Shah entering the apartment around 8:40 p.m., with Pandey asking him, “What are you going to do?” Shah left the apartment an hour later with Pandey’s purse.
Pandey’s body was discovered days later after an anonymous caller informed the apartment management. She had been shot multiple times in the torso and once in the head.
Connection to Sugar Daddy Site
Authorities believe Shah may have targeted Pandey through a sugar daddy dating website. A female tipster who had previously met Shah on such a site recognized him in the surveillance footage and alerted the police. Investigators suspect Pandey knew Shah and that he stole her mobile phone after the murder.
The Nepalese Association of Houston is collaborating with the Nepal Consulate to assist Pandey’s family with travel arrangements to the United States.
The investigation into Pandey’s murder is ongoing.
